Sibbe en Liefke - Children book for swimming lessons
Sibbe en Liefke is a childrens book that can be used during the period they have swimming lessons. Sibbe the main character in the story lost his mom, and needs to learn how to swim before he can start to look for her. Luckily he meets Liefke, and she becomes his swimming teatcher. After meeting a lot of new friends, which learn Sibbe a lot of techniques that are metaphoricly connected to the reallife techniques children need to learn during their own swimming lessons, he learns to swim and together with Liefke he goes looking for his mom.
This is one of the many projects I have worked on during my time at 8D Games. Now that I have taken the time to upload a large amount of them it's making me proud to see what we have accomplished during this time.
My role was bassicly to do all the art for the studio as their only inhouse artist. During this time I have met great people and had the privilage to work with a lot of talented interns as well that helped me crank through these projects as well.

For this project I worked inhouse at 8D - Research + Design = Impact for their client Skander Marketing. We worked together to make this project come to life so a lot of children now have the chance to learn swimming in a fun and educantional way! It's a project I'm very proud of and I hold dear even now after it's finished.

Product impression of the book children would get when entering their first swimming lesson. The coins are collectable rewards after they completed certain parts of the swim-training.
Sibbe is the main character of the story. Children can relate them selves with Sibbe because in the story he metaphorically learns the same things they need to learn during swimming lessons.
Liefke is the swimming teacher of Sibbe in the story. She introduces him to all her friends. Her friends will learn Sibbe new swimming skills in his journey.
This is Koen, he will teach Sibbe how to swim in safe and undeep water.
Plus the illustration proces in three simple steps, sketch & design > lineart > coloring.
This is Schol-juf, she teaches Sibbe how to do the breaststroke. One of the techniques children need to be able to do before they can pass their swimming exams.
The client was super invested and therefore wanted to tweak and check even the smallest details to be sure the design would match the vision of the project.
Sibbe's Mom is lost, and Sibbe is desperatly trying to find her, but without being able to swim well first he can't go looking for her in open waters.
Steven de Strandjutter, has a hut on the beach where Sibbe and Liefke take a break form all the intensive practising.
Admiraal Aalscholver - Learns to Sibbe how to dive from platforms and swim to the bottom of the sea to retrieve objects. Metaphor for children to dive up objects from the bottom of the swimming pool.
Teske is a friendly dolphin and very good friend of Liefke. She teaches Sibbe to swim through a hula hoop that is placed underwater.

These are the coin designs made for the children as a reward for all the steps they take in learning how to swim themselves.
The swimming pool has even been updated with water fountains in the theme of the story!
